National Enduro Championship

24 May 2011

BROTHER BROADLINK KTM’S DE WET LEADING 200 CLASS

Round three of the National Enduro Championship took place in the Humansdorp area / Port Elizabeth on the 14 May 2011. Recent rain had turned parts of the track into a muddy adventure, especially on the special stage where even some of the top runners battled to get through.

The organising Rover club had put together an interesting course with a loop of 48 km’s that National competitors had to complete four times. A special stage of 19 km’s was part of the loop and was timed on three of the four laps since the first lap was a sighting lap with a regularity time of 2 hours. On lap two regularity times were cut by 10 minutes and by another 10 minutes on the third lap. The final regularity time on the last lap was cut down to 1h25min, only allowing the top contenders to finish their lap on time without getting any penalties for being late.

KTM enduro specialist Darryl Curtis finished the race in 4th place overall and third in the Open class on his Brother Broadlink KTM 300 XC-W followed by team mate Altus de Wet who finished second in the 200cc class and is currently leading the championship in his class. Brother Broadlink KTM’s Scott Scheepers finished 11th Overall and 4th in the 200cc class.

Riaan van Niekerk was in for top results, but the former National Enduro and Off Road champion had to retire from the race after a bad crash on the special stage and hurting his wrist. Brother Broadlink KTM team mate Gray Dick gave up any hopes after he drowned his bike and lost a lot of time, falling back in the field and not able to finish the race within the give cut off time.

The Brother Broadlink KTM teamof Curtis, Van Niekerk and Scheepers are however looking forward to participating in this year’s Erzberg Rodeo taking place in Eisenerz/Austria from 24 to 26 June for one of the World’s toughest Extreme Enduro races.

The next and fourth round of the Liquorland National Enduro Championship, the Kei Enduro, will take place on 2 July in the East London area.
